Adult-like temporary dieting is not recommended in children and adolescents because it may have hazardous effects on growth and development, metabolism and self-esteem, as well as promote unhealthy attitudes towards food and body image, along with feelings of deprivation and binge eating behaviors. Being overweight, underweight, and or having poor nutrition, eating, activity and health habits doesn't happen overnight. Unfortunately, many children and adolescents suffer physiological, physical, psychological or emotional symptoms and side effects until help is sought for intervention and a formal diagnosis by a pediatrician or other family practice healthcare practitioner is made. It is at that time that parents and children may or may not seek the proper nutrition & health intervention services needed. Just like your child or adolescent would learn math or science in school, sometimes they learn better when the subject, topic of interest or advice is being taught or given by another professional or some else other than yourself. The same applies to "nutrition education."

We give students the opportunity to learn how to change their unhealthy eating and activity behaviors by being taught not only from someone else professional, but from a different perspective, one in which they might be more willing to listen and learn. At One Potato Two Tomato we offer pro-active and preventative programs and services that educate children & families in a nurturing and supportive environment on how to adopt and implement age-appropriate proper nutrition, eating & physical fitness activities essential for living a healthy lifestyle and reducing the risk of nutrition related diseases. When our students, along with parent support, learn how to change their behaviors and attitudes towards food, acquire a sense of personal control & empowerment to be accountable for their choices, eat healthy, and exercise daily, the results are only positive. No matter what weight, shape or size your child or adolescent may be or what poor or improper dietary habits he or she may have. Participants can benefit from any of our healthy lifestyle, age-appropriate nutrition education, healthy cooking, fitness & family counseling programs and services. All program curriculums are based on the latest research and recommendations regarding health, nutrition & fitness intervention programs for children & adolescents from the Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, American Dietetic Association, American Heart Association & the American Academy of Pediatrics to mention just a few.

Our small group programs meet 1-2 times per week, for 4, 6, 8 &/or 12 week sessions for maximum learning potential & lifestyle habit changes. The amount of time needed for a child, tween or teen to attain and practice healthy eating and exercise habits varies depending on their learning abilities, changes in home, school & social environments as well as parent support. Some children and adolescents are with us on a weekly, monthly, yearly & or seasonal basis. Whatever, their duration and lifestyle goals with us at our health & wellness education center, parents and children have the option to enroll & re-enroll in the same and or different age-appropriate programs that we offer to help you and your child change, adopt and implement new healthy lifestyle behaviors in eating and exercise over time.
